"Look, I really think there's been a mistake. I'm scared of the dark, the stars all look the same to me, I get dawn and dusk mixed up, I'm a terrible singer, so... Guardian of the Moon?"

Mune is the titular protagonist of Mune: Guardian of the Moon. A young adolescent Faun with a pure heart, Mune is unprepared when he is chosen to be the new Guardian of the Moon. But when an honest mistake led to world disaster, he set off on an adventure to make things right for everyone and prove his worthiness as a Guardian.

Appearance[]

Mune is a blue-colored Faun with short blue hair and aqua-blue eyes. He has deer-like ears that often told his emotions, a deer-like tail, and very long limbs. His forearms and lower legs are covered in darker colored fur. Unlike most members of his kind, he is shown to have a lighter tone of blue for his fur (this is probably because of his age, since, in the ending of the movie we can see a young faun who has a lighter fur-tone as well - as well as Mune’s sister).

Personality[]

Mune is very mischievous and irresponsible. Because of his clumsy personality, he often caused trouble and embarrassment for others; however, Mune is kind-hearted, courageous and is able to make up for the things that he has done wrong. He is also quite compassionate, as shown when interacting with Glim. Though he teased Sohone, such as tricking him into eating some helium algae that temporarily made his voice high-pitched, he cared for him, as well. He is also respectful of his elders, addressing former Guardians with the appropriate title of "Master."

Mune's Father

Not much is known about Mune's early life, but before becoming a Guardian, he was shown to be very playful and fun-loving, with no interest in becoming a Guardian.

Mune first appeared in the Forest the night before the Ceremony of the Guardians the next day. Playing with his friend Garoon, Mune accidentally interrupted a speech given by Leeyoon, who is expected to be the next Guardian of the Moon. For embarrassing Leeyoon, Mune's father forbade him from attending the ceremony and told him that he can come outside once he's learned responsibility. Mune sulked that he's mature, then proceeded to calm down his little sister, suffering from a nightmare. Mune then emerged from his home to observe the Temple of the Moon passing by, with the Moon in tow, much to Mune's awe.

Next morning, Mune left his home and sneaked away to attend the Ceremony. He stopped to notice the candle girl Glim standing in the twilight between day and night. Mune is soon discovered hiding in a bush by the Moon Ewe, who chose him as the Guardian of the Moon, much to Leeyoon's and, along with everyone else's shock and disbelief. Mune is also unwelcomed by Sohone, the new Guardian of the Sun, accusing him of foul play to become the Guardian, which Mune denied.

Mune is brought to the Temple of the Moon by Master Yule, where the young Faun questioned his worth, but before he can protest for too long, Yule passed on in the Grove of the Guardians. Mune quickly tried to accept his role as Guardian, declaring it cheerfully to the world, then attempted to make the Temple move faster, only to cause it to behave chaotically, stomping through the forest and eventually losing the Moon.

Using a Moon Spider, Mune managed to tether the Moon, but the remaining Moon Spiders refused to assist him, only for Sohone to arrive and chastise Mune for his negligence. Holding the Moon like a balloon on a string, Mune followed Sohone outside when Glim arrived to warn them of the Sun being stolen by Mox and Spleen, who are the minions of the fiery demon Necross. Fed up with Mune, Sohone took the Moon and gave it to Leeyoon, then said that Mune is fired as Guardian, causing him to flee into the forest in tears.

Alone in the forest, Mune came across the damage he caused, then is disowned and banished by the People of the Night. Begging them for forgiveness, Mune spoke to his father, promising to set things right before being left alone.

With the darkness spreading everywhere, Mune called on some firebugs to help guide him through the forest, accompanied by Sohone and Glim, to the Giant Blue Hole which led to the Underworld. Finding some oxygen algae for him and Sohone to breathe underwater, Mune carried the frozen Glim with him. They are soon met by former Guardian of the Moon Master Phospho, who carried them to the other side of the planet. After Glim is awakened, Mune is embarrassed by her gratitude to him for keeping her safe.

En route to the entrance to the Underworld, Mune and Glim observed the Temple of the Moon acting crazy from the loss of the Moon. Reunited with his friend Garoon, who was carried by the Temple, Mune succeeded in calming the Temple down. He found a sobbing Leeyoon inside, who explained that the Moon died in his absence. Deciding to craft a new Moon, just as the first Guardian had done, Mune took Glim into the World of Dreams.

Surrounded by terrifying creatures of nightmare, Mune discovered that he has the power to remove nightmares and sent them away, revealing the Moon Quarry, where the first Guardian carved the first Moon. Taking up a hammer and chisel, Mune succeeded in crafting a new Moon. He and Glim also began to develop romantic feelings for each other, but before they can share a kiss, they're brought back to reality.

A humbled Leeyoon apologized to Mune and acknowledged him as the rightful Guardian. Before the Moon can be returned to the sky, the Sun still needed to be recovered. With the Moon in hand, Mune and Glim reunited with Sohone and proceeded into the Underworld.

Necross ambushed the three friends when they arrived, then set Mox and Spleen on Mune and Glim, while Sohone battled the giant demon. While Mune struggled to keep Mox off himself, Glim is able to convince the more peaceful Spleen to let her go, allowing her to reach the nearly dead Sun. Despite Mune's warning that the Sun would melt her, Glim bravely sacrificed herself to revive the Sun by blowing on it.

After prying Mox off, Mune is devastated to find Glim, melted and dying. With her last words, she urged Mune to defeat Necross. Mune faced Necross and is almost crushed, until Sohone held the demon back long enough for the Sun and Moon to shine together, awakening the Guardians' powers.

Realizing what to do, Mune used his power to put Necross to sleep. In the World of Dreams, Mune is invincible and proceeded to destroy the source of Necross's evil, which is an Evil Corruptor that has seized his heart. A redeemed Necross smiled in thanks to Mune, before being granted peace in eternal sleep.

Mune is awakened by Sohone, who explained that the Underworld has been cleansed and purified of destructive fire and lava, into a beautiful green, floral place. But Mune is heartbroken by Glim's death.

Taking her body back to the surface, he re-sculpts her as she was, and left a small fragment of the Moon in her hands, before tearfully leaving with the Moon and setting it back in the night sky. Taking up the mantle of Guardian, Mune traveled into the night atop the Temple in sad silence.

Soon thereafter, he approached a cliffside and noticed Glim, miraculously resurrected by the combined light of the Sun and Moon. With tears of joy, Mune reunited with Glim and they shared a kiss.

Mune's Sister

Family

Mune is shown to have both a father and a younger sister. It's unknown who or where his mom is.

Abilities[]

As a Faun, Mune has many amazing powers, which included:

Enhanced Jumps: Mune is able to jump high and at a very long distance.

"Singing": As one of the people of the night, Mune is able to control and speak to other creatures of the night such as fireflies and flowers.

As the Guardian of the Moon, Mune has access to abilities, such as:

Master of Dreams: With this ability, Mune is able to enter the World of Dreams and also is capable of controlling said world at will.

Sandman: An ability that Mune possessed even before becoming the Guardian of the Moon. This ability allowed Mune to banish or change nightmares to pleasant dreams. This ability can also change the actions or behavior of other characters, such as falling asleep or calming people who are experiencing nightmares or behaving erratically.

Other abilities

Sculpting craftsmanship: Mune can sculpt Glim skillfully, as seen with what was left of her melted candle wax body. He also succeeded in crafting the second Moon of the world, something only the first Guardian ever accomplished.

Knowledgeable in different types of algae: as seen when he tricked Sohone into eating Helium Algae as opposed to Oxygen Algae; easily recognising the difference.

Ending Credits[]

Mune is seen playing with his sister atop the Moon Temple, then joining Glim and Sohone on the ground. In another scene, Mune joined Sohone and Glim at the Arena, while everyone celebrated, with both Temples looking on overhead.
